Overview

The introductory module reviews worldwide trends, basic concepts and terminologies in disaster risk management. It also outlines the framework that is followed throughout the course and the overall disaster risk management program.

Aims of this module are to improve your
Knowledge of worldwide trends in disaster occurrence,
Awareness about natural hazards and their impact on development prospects,
Understanding of basic concepts in comprehensive natural disaster risk management,
Appreciation of linkages between natural hazard risk and natural resource management and environmental degradation,
Understanding of the importance of formulating and implementing comprehensive mitigation strategies.

Pre-Requisite to Participate
Minimum graduation or equivalent in any discipline. Fundamental knowledge of computer operations including but not limited to MS Office, opening media files etc. Well-versed in working on the computer. Preferably having knowledge of online virtual learning platform. Comfortable in reading and writing in English.
